DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME

 

Sail Africa’s mandate is development of the youth and our programmes involve our students in the following courses:

 

Learn to Keelboat Sail

Learn to Keelboat Race

Advanced Keelboat Sailing

Courses comprise both theory (including weather, harbour rules, buoyage etc,) as well as practical sailing

Those that show promise are offered participation in

 Advanced Keelboat Racing Course and Dinghy Programme

 

Many of our Educational programmes such as the Nautical Sciences programme forms part of our development program.

 

Sail Africa also provides the following for  its development sailors:

 

Raises funds to attend the keelboat programme on weekday afternoons

Raises funds for participation in regattas such as the MSC Regatta

Offers experienced youth the opportunity to obtain their South African Sailing Day Skippers qualification
and become qualified coaches

Opportunities when available to sail on a Tall Ship and  participate in national and international sailing events & races

 

 

CURRENT STATUS OF DEVELOPMENT
YOUTH SAILING

 

Currently we have development youngsters participating in the Keelboat Youth Programme from Rossburgh; New Forest High, the 1st Port Natal Sea Scouts and the KZN Nautical Sciences learners.

 

Youngsters from Rossburgh High School and have been in the programme since 2012/13

Several of graduate youth are actively racing on boats of local yacht cub members

 

 

ADVANCED DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM

 

The programme incorporates:

Ongoing dinghy training; Fitness; Relevant theory; Attendance at regattas both local and away; Mentoring
